Princes Risborough a Potted History: Princes Risborough is a smallish market town positioned in Buckinghamshire (Bucks), England, United Kingdom, it stands around 8 miles to the north-west of High Wycombe and about 9 miles to the south of Aylesbury (the county town). In 2011, Princes Risborough was home to a population of 8,101 (a rise on the 2001 figure of 7,978). The town sits at the foot of the picturesque Chiltern Hills and can be accessed by way of the A4010 which runs between West Wycombe and Stoke Mandeville.

When the Domesday Book was written in 1086, the town was called Risborough and was a royal manor (formerly controlled by King Harold). Its name hails from the old English meaning more or less "brushwood covered hills" or "scrub covered hills". The town changed its name to Princes Risborough when it was held by the Black Prince (Edward) in 1344. This area was undoubtedly settled centuries before this and probably evolved as a resting place for travellers going between the River Thames and the Icknield Way, due to its lying in a wide opening in the Chiltern Hills.

Princes Risborough has been a market town since 1523 when it was granted a royal charter by Henry 8th, this allowed it to hold a market each (held on Thursdays) and 2 annual fairs (which are still held today in May and October).

Princes Risborough today is a bustling little town, although the centre and High Street area has been calmer since the construction of the "by-pass" New Road in nineteen eighty seven.
