About Princes Risborough: Princes Risborough is a small town situated in the county of Buckinghamshire (Bucks), England, UK, it lies about eight miles north-west of High Wycombe and roughly nine miles south of Aylesbury. In the 2011 census, Princes Risborough had 8,101 residents (a rise on the 2001 figure of 7,978). The town sits at the foot of the picturesque Chiltern Hills and can be accessed via the A4010 which runs between Stoke Mandeville and West Wycombe.

When the Domesday Book was put together in 1086, the town was called Risborough and was a royal manor (previously controlled by King Harold). Its name "Risborough" derives from the old English which means something like "brushwood covered hills" or "scrub covered hills". The name was changed to Princes Risborough after it was held by Edward the Black Prince in 1344. The area was however inhabited long before this and in all likelihood evolved as a stop for travellers going between the Icknield Way and the River Thames, with it lying favourably in a broad gap in the Chiltern Hills.

Princes Risborough became a market town in the early Sixteenth Century after it was granted a royal charter by Henry VIII, this enabled it to put on a market every week (Thursdays) and two annual fairs (still being held today in October and May).

Nowadays Princes Risborough is a bustling little town, although the centre and High St has been somewhat less busy since the completion of the "by-pass" New Road in nineteen eighty seven.
