About Princes Risborough: Princes Risborough is a smallish market town positioned in Buckinghamshire, England, UK, it is placed around 8 miles north-west of High Wycombe and around nine miles south of Aylesbury (the county town). In 2011, Princes Risborough had 8,101 residents (a small rise on the 2001 figure of 7,978). The town is placed at the foot of the lovely Chiltern Hills and can be accessed via the A4010 which runs between Stoke Mandeville and West Wycombe.

At the time of the Domesday Book in 1086, the town was known simply as Risborough and was a royal manor (before the conquest controlled by King Harold). The name "Risborough" hails from the old English meaning something like "brushwood covered hills" or "scrub covered hills". It became Princes Risborough when the manor was held by the Black Prince (Edward) in 1344. The area was without doubt populated long before this and probably evolved as a stop off point for those travelling between the River Thames and the Icknield Way, with it lying favourably in a wide opening in the Chiltern Hills.

Princes Risborough has been a market town since 1523 after it was issued a royal charter by King Henry VIII, this allowed the town to put on a weekly market (each Thursday) and 2 annual fairs (still being held presently in October and May).

Princes Risborough today is a bustling little town, though the centre and High Street area has been more laid back ever since the development of the New Road "by-pass" in the late 1980's.
