Princes Risborough a Potted History: Princes Risborough is a smallish market town located in Buckinghamshire (Bucks), England, UK, it sits around eight miles to the north-west of High Wycombe and about nine miles south of Aylesbury. In 2011, Princes Risborough had 8,101 residents (a rise on the 2001 census figure of 7,978). The town lies at the foot of the pretty Chiltern Hills and can be reached via the A4010 which runs between West Wycombe and Stoke Mandeville.

At the time of the Domesday Book in 1086, the town was simply known as Risborough and was a royal manor (previously controlled by King Harold). The name "Risborough" hails from the old English which means roughly "scrub covered hills" or "brushwood covered hills". It became Princes Risborough after it was held by Edward the Black Prince in 1344. This area was however settled a long time before this and possibly developed as a stop off for those travelling between the Icknield Way and the River Thames, due to its lying in a broad gap in the Chiltern Hills.

Princes Risborough has been a market town since 1523 when it was issued a royal charter by King Henry 8th, this enabled it to put on a market weekly (held on Thursdays) and 2 annual fairs (which are still held presently in May and October).

These days Princes Risborough is a busy little town, although the centre and High Street has been quieter ever since the building of the "by-pass" New Road in the 1980's.
